After he dropped 30 points on Brookings-Harbor last Friday, Sutherlin’s defensive modus operandi was simple: stop Donminic Lewis. The Bulldogs limited the Challengers leading scorer to four points on a night where opportunities were hard to come by as the home team prevailed 47-38.
Kiegan Schaan picked up the slack with 16 points on a night where starting defensive spark plug Cody Reece was absent from the lineup. Layne Collom added some outside shooting, along with Kai Coster.
The outcome, coupled with a St. Mary’s victory creates a three-way tie for first in the Far West League between Cascade, Sutherlin and St. Mary’s. Tomorrow night, the Challengers look to rebound with a non-league home date against Butte Falls.
