Challengers News · 7v7 Flag Football Among Sports Offerings For Middle School Students

We have good news to announce: there will be middle school sports for CCMS students this school year. True- the offerings will look different than your typical year, but there will be a variety to address the interests of our students- in spite of the challenges brought on by COVID-19.

For details- here’s a letter sent out by Athletic Director Nate Mayben:

Thank you for your patience and understanding during the last 9 months. As an Athletic Department we have been navigating continuously changing guidelines, protocols, season calendars, schedules, etc… I know we haven’t been able to communicate much information up to this point, but I believe we have a solid plan moving forward for our middle school students. Below is information for participation in Flag Football, Cross Country, and Track and Field. Unfortunately, we will not be able to provide school programs for Boys and Girls Basketball, Volleyball, and Wrestling this year. There are many club opportunities in this valley for those sports we are not be able to offer this year.

Now, for the good news!

Cascade Christian and many other Middle Schools in the valley are teaming up to provide a flag football opportunity in place of tackle football. Practice will start on February 16th and games will be played on Feb. 27th, Mar. 6th, 13th, and 20th. The games will be played using the 7v7 NFL Flag Football rules ( We plan on running multiple teams with 10-12 players per team with a potential of playing 8 total games (2 games each Saturday). We will still be using Register My Athlete to sign up for flag football using the current “Football” registration we have right now. Makes sure you fill out all the forms, have a current physical on file, and the sports fee (amount TBD) paid by February 16th to be eligible to participate. I know this isn’t tackle football but we are extremely excited to offer this opportunity for our student athletes.

Also, our local Middle School Athletic Conference has set the following for Cascade Christian Cross Country and Track and Field

  • Cross Country from March 29 through May 1st
  • Track and Field from April 26 through June 5

We will still be using Register My Athlete to sign up for Cross Country and Track and Field. Make sure you fill out all the forms, have a current physical on file, and the sports fee (amount TBD) paid to be eligible to participate.

All our sports will follow OHA’s sector guidance as it applies to Outdoor Recreation and Outdoor Fitness Establishments (OHA Outdoor) authorized by Executive Order No. 20-66. Cascade Christian Middle School will also revisit participation for all seasons as a result of updated state guidance or changing risk level metrics as needed and will communicate changes as necessary. Please know, in advance, that there is a very good chance these events will not allow fans. We will work our hardest to allow fans to participate in some fashion, but we will need your cooperation if fans are not allowed at the events. By signing up you are agreeing that this is acceptable, and you will support the school with these decisions.

Thank you all again for your patience and understanding and we look forward to what the rest of this school year has to offer.

God Bless
