Yes, you read that correctly: Cascade Christian has a trap shooting team, and a good one at that. As a team, the Challengers finished third at state in the spring, and Lily Akins earned first place individually, with Grace Bailey claiming fourth. This week, a promising squad of ten shooters is getting its first taste of fall competition, after months of practice and preparation.
Akins and Bailey return to offer a solid foundation, and there are a bevy of male shooters who are raising their game to boost the team. Junior Grant Walker has made great strides over the summer, while seniors Zane Snyder, Owen Harrington and Ethan Rathburn are building off of good past performances. Other newcomers include senior Jadin Fiannaca- who has proven to be a quick study- and underclassmen Jacob Hailey and Blake Skeeters provide a nucleus for the Challengers future.
Fall competition will wrap up at the beginning of December, and there will also be a spring season. Those interested in trap shooting are invited to call Sara Bailey, who works in our admissions office.
This will be a fun season, and we’re grateful to Coach Mel Weeks, and his assistants Travis Snyder and Jason Skeeters to help make it happen.
