Stop me if you’ve heard this story before….actually, don’t, because it has a nice ending. Cascade Christian powered through a rough start to edge Dayton in the Oregon 3A State Championship tournament 53-45.
Cody Reece was a spark plug, scoring six of his 13 points in the first quarter. After trailing by 8 at 13-5, the Challengers caught fire, shooting 6-8 from the field in the second quarter to take a 24-21 halftime lead.
It was a balanced effort for Cascade as Reece scored 13, Layne Collom added 11 and fished out three assists. Donminic Lewis scored 10, hailed down 7 rebounds, rejected two shots. Kiegan Schaan scored 9 and played tough defense on Justin Morales. Matt McPheeters scored eight, and Nathan Spurlock had an important put back to keep Cascade in front.
Now, the Challengers play St. Mary’s in the semifinals tomorrow at 8:15 pm. There will be a rooter bus, and the game will be broadcast on The Nail.
