Challengers News · Softball: Challengers Face Pirates In 1st Semifinal Appearance in 24 Years

The third-seeded Cascade Christian Challengers will travel Tuesday to take on the defending 3A champion Dayton Pirates at Dayton.

The first pitch is scheduled for 4:30 pm.

Admission is: $8 for Adults

$5 for Students

The 22-7 Challengers take on a Pirates team that has made the championship game four years in a row. The last time they missed in 2014, Dayton lost a 1-0 squeaker to Rainier, a playoff arch rival to the Pirates. The Pirates boast a record of 18-5, coming out of the PacWest Conference. They are a well-seasoned team with six seniors.

Cascade Christian is cast in the role of the upstart. The last two seasons, the Challengers lost in the first round to Amity. In 2016, Dayton dominated Cascade 18-0 in the quarterfinals. The program has been to the semifinals before…..in 1995, back when Cascade Christian was playing at the AA-A level. Back in the days of the Jacksonville campus, the Challengers defeated Oakridge 13-3 in the quarterfinals (they earned a first-round bye), before being eliminated by Sheridan 8-1.

The Challenger crew is anchored by three seniors: clean-up hitting first baseman Mallory Meilicke, leadoff hitting center fielder Audrey Quast, and play-making second baseman Mia Mayben.

Here’s to the end of a long dry spell. Go Challengers!
