Cascade Christian junior swimmer Braedon Scaglione, and the 200 Free Relay team will compete at the state championships in Tualitin, Thursday and Friday, Feb. 15th and 16th.
Overall, the Challenger boys took 8th and the girls 11th at the district meet in North Bend.
Scaglione will compete in the 50 Freestyle and the 100 Breastroke. Scaglione took 4th place in the 50 Free with a time Saturday of 23.38, eclipsing his seed time of 23.59. He will enter the state 4A/3A/2A/1A prelims as the number six seed.
In the 100 Breastroke, Braedon is seeded third after finishing 2nd in North Bend with a time of 1:03.75. His time at district eclipsed his prelim time of 1:04.15.
Joining Scaglione on the 200 Free Relay are Owen Harrington, Elijah Snyder, and Will Pierson. Donovan Ritchie will be on stand-by as an alternate.They finished 5th in districts with a time of 1:42.03. They’re seeded 11th in the second relay group that will compete in the state prelims Thursday.
In other highlights Saturday, Hannah Smith finished 8th in the 100 Free, besting her prelim time by nearly five seconds at 1:06.35. Sophomore Will Pierson recorded a top 10 finish in the 100 Free with a 58.07, good enough for 9th. Elijah Snyder clocked a time of 1:11.93 in the 100 Back to place 6th. Smith finished 7th in the 100 Back, shaving off 6 seconds off her prelim time at 1:22.48.
All of these performances and those of other Cascade Christian swimmers such as Mia Mayben, Allison Modrell, Jasmine Janbay, Kaitlyn Meadows, and Donovan Ritchie, are especially when you consider a lion’s share of the team is competing in swimming for the first time.
